Though I could write a full paragraph about each of these shorts, I'll keep them to a sentence of plot, and a sentence of description.
I'm Here: A love story between two robots in a world of robotic oppression, and how they become - quite literally - completely integrated. Spike Jonze delivers a quintessential Jonzesque film with a great environment, an intriguingly quirky plot, and uncharacteristically, some computer graphics.
The Fence: A documentary about the wall between Mexico and the United States, talking to mostly low-level, on the street locals. Well made, poorly narrated, this film explored the topic well in a short period of time, but progressed without a real initial question or clear conclusion.
Logorama: The only computer animated short presented, the film follows a car chase and hostage situation in a world made entirely of corporate logos. The film, with French subtitles, was humorously made, and though the motivation for all the logos is never presented, the sole purpose of this film was a simple, entertaining, and funny movie.
Seeds of the Fall: A Swedish-made, Swedish language film that chronicles the short series of events that unfold after a bulldozer crashes through a couple's trailer home. This oddball, meandering film explores an old couple's love life - or lack of - in a well-shot, simply acted, funny representation of Swedish culture.
In attendance: Fence director Rory Kennedy, Seeds director Patrik Eklund an producer Mathias Fjällström
