A visual effects extravaganza that was meant to be just that. Forget the fact that there were way too many protagonists to count. Forget that there was way too little time to gain emotional attachment to the characters. That's not really what this film was about. The cinematography was good, but again, it served only to enact the overwhelming digital effects. It was fun, even exhaustingly so, but if you want a semi-apocalyptic story about the triumph of humanity, stick with Emerich's previous success Independence Day.
