I had completely forgotten that this was an Eastwood film until the credits rolled. I've already talked about him a fair amount in The Katsography, but each time I see something with him - or by him - I'm extremely impressed. There are always a few cheesy moments, a few cheesy lines, and sub-par acting in a few cases, but the stories are solid, and more than anything - meaningful. This film about Nelson Mandela was inspiring, and though I felt torn at times trying to decide whether this was a sport film or a character film, I'm ok with that. It didn't try to be anything more than what it was and I felt it was very true to life. There were sequences that were much too heavy handed, and sequences that showed up out of the blue, but again, those are sacrifices I'm willing to endure to watch a great Eastwood film. And hey, seeing the All Blacks do the Haka in 2.35:1 would almost be worth the entire ticket cost.
