I have to admit that because of everything that I'm involved in right now, I didn't put forth the same amount of concentration and attention to this film as I do for most films, but then again, it didn't really pull me into the film and force me to have that attention. I recognize this as an AFI film about halfway up the list, but I imagine that it's position is because of the historical context and significance it holds. The story is different from what I picture westerns of those times being like, more real and not so cheesy/ridiculous. In the end, I probably wouldn't have watched this film if it wasn't AFI-acclaimed.
