Providing much more depth than I expected, Adventureland was a teen love story that reminded me very much of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, even ending similiarly in a juvenile - and extremely censored - sex scene. Though Adventureland is technically based around post-college pointlessness and plans gone awry (somewhere in the light of The Graduate), I was constantly thrown back into the world of high school, bad decisions, and adolescence. The film had a wealth of interesting characters, and it never got boring watching the quirks unfold on screen - yes, even the immature ex-best friend punching people in the balls. The only people that really felt mediocre - or at least less interesting - were the two main characters, Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, who just seemed to act according to whatever happened to them. The 80s design was fantastic, the plot progressed naturally, and unlike Nick and Norah's, the film resolved itself without over the top dramatization or cliches. Though this film definitely doesn't work its way anywhere near cinematic genius, it is certainly a fun way to spend a couple hours with a few friends.
