RECENT ADDITIONS:

MOON, 2009

Sam Rockwell commands this outstanding solo piece, creating an incredibly original and imaginative film. Very much inspired by 2001: A Space Oddyssey, the references and similarities are blatantly apparent, but not in a knock-off manner - rather in the mode of continuing an acutely defined genre. Kevin Spacey's voice makes a HAL-like appearance, but the brilliant acting and depth of this film goes to Sam Rockwell, acting all the worker clones in what must have been an incredibly interesting, yet tiring production. Going into this film, I expected a lower budget sci-fi foible, but left with a greater appreciation for character actors, small, yet masterfully crafted set design, and a story just crazy enough to be fantastic. This film didn't rest on the discovery that they were clones, but rather, in the Kafka-esque resolution of that fact. It was about how they interacted with each other, how they dealt with the situation, and ultimately, their final decisions. The film was not a nail-biter, nor was it necessarily even a deep sci-fi adventure, but it was a great character piece and something that will not, even can not, be replicated very easily.

Yeah, this was a great film. Great acting.

Underlining denotes a film seen in theaters, an asterisk (*) denotes an AFI film, an exclamation point (!) denotes repeated viewings of a film.
