ONG BAK 2, 2008

Hwaaaaaa. I watched the original Ong Bak before watching this sequel/prequel and hoped (with the small part of me that's cinematically optimistic) that the sequel might take the martial arts of the original and boost both the story and level of acting. MAN was I disappointed. Exhibiting absolutely no relevance to the original, this film, in my mind, actually scores lower on the acting scale. There were short snippets - random shots lasting maybe 2 seconds - that looked beautiful and lyrical, but when placed within the context of the film did not match and made me believe that the cinematographer used this as one big 'reel-builder' piece. Absolutely nothing within this film would lead me to recommend this to anyone, which genuinely frustrates me, because Tony Jaa (the star of both this and the first) has the potential to become this generation's Muay Thai Jackie Chan or Jet Li, but he has severely struck out with his first few films. I'm giving him one more chance.
